Screen Savvy Camp takes place in beautiful Princeton, MA, in a Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care licensed setting. Media Literacy means knowing the ins and outs of screen technology, but it doesn't mean we have to miss out on outdoor fun. We'll be taking our cameras outdoors for plenty of fresh air, no matter the season.  Each camp session includes a field trip to a local site, such as a farm or Audubon site.

2013 Screen Savvy Camp Sessions:

July 8-12, (M-F), 8:30 - 3:30

Calling All Future Directors!  Movie Making Camp

What can film be used for?  Informing?  Entertaining?  Persuading?  During this week, kids will learn the some of the techniques used by filmmakers to create an engaging film.  We'll spend some time exploring different purposes of film, and we'll get the chance to make a few different projects, including a documentary, a public service announcement, and our own short film, written, directed, and edited by (and starring!) the kids!

This week will also include a field trip to the Heifer Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA.

August 12 - 16 (M-F), 8:30-3:30

Get Ready for the Close-up: Outdoor Digital Photography Camp

During this week, we invite children to bring their own digital cameras to learn the basics of digital photography.  We'll capture the beauty of summer, explore the features of digital cameras, and discuss some of the basic theories of photography (light, framing, color, contrast, creativity, etc.)  We'll play around a little with editing our photos, but since we'll want to spend most of our time in the great outdoors, our emphasis will be on mastering our cameras in the fresh air.  (Fancy camera not necessary!  A basic point-and-shoot is all your child will need!)

This week will also include a field trip to the Wachusett Meadows Audubon site in Princeton, MA.
